About the Studio
The design studio includes Scott Farrara and Vaka Pereyma as a husband and wife team. They established Almost Normal Design Studio (ANDS) in 2005 in a 50’s era firehouse on Main Street in Casstown, OH. The studio’s main focus is on hand made ceramics which includes traditional wheel thrown pottery, tiles, and mosaics. Additional design work includes painting, collages and photography.
Scott produces the wheel thrown ware with Vaka joining in to developing the glaze and mosaic designs currently in production.
In addition to the basic ceramic items, custom orders are accepted and produced. Please call (937) 703-1764 to visit the showroom and browse the items for sale.
Scott is a traditionally trained functional potter who specializes in hand-thrown dinnerware. He has additional experience as a tile maker from his time at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doyelstown, Pennsylvania, where he specialized in turn-of-the-century hand-made tiles and mosaics. Scott currently teaches ceramics classes at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center in Troy, OH.
Vaka studied ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art and then received her MFA in printmaking from Ohio University with a focus on lithography, intagalio, woodcut and other traditional processes. After winning an internship at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works she combined her background in ceramics and printmaking on the plaster die and molding process utilized at the Tile Works. Since then, Vaka’s additional creative processes of collaging and works on paper inspire her glazing color selections, and texture application at the studio.
The studio makes full use of three bays of the firehouse for design work, wheel throwing, glazing and firing. Our small shop is also located here…
